The first-ever public versions of libnotify and notification-daemon, which make up the Desktop Notifications framework we've been working on, have been released!

The desktop notifications framework consists of a specification and reference implementation (libnotify and notification-daemon). They are designed to allow applications to display passive pop-up notifications that won't interrupt what the user is doing.

This is actually not the first release. The first release was 0.2.0, and had some issues with GCC 4.0 and D-BUS 0.3x. The 0.2.1 release was made shortly after, and is the first recommended version.
